Cobble gets first win as CU head coach

SHAWNEE – The Cameron men’s tennis team opened up the Josh Cobble era with a 5-4 win over Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday. The Aggies are now 3-2 on the young season.

In doubles, CU won two out of the three matches. First, Felipe Oyarzun and Mateo Velasco won 8-5 against OBU’s one doubles team, and then Vinicius Santos and Keiran President won in the third spot 9-7. The doubles team of Andres Velasco and Julen Gutierrez lost 8-3 in the two spot.

Cameron went 3-3 in their singles matches, winning in the first, third, and fourth matches. Santos took down OBU’s no. one 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, while M. Velasco won 6-3, 6-4 in the third spot and Gutierrez won his match in the fourth place, 6-4, 7-6. Oyarzun lost to OBU’s no. two 7-6, 6-2, President lost 6-3, 6-3 in the fifth spot and Stefam Svicevic lost 6-2, 6-3 in the sixth place.

CU is ranked no. 16 in the ITA National rankings and second in the South Central region.

The Aggies will compete again on Friday, Feb. 25 when they hit the court against St. Mary’s in Southlake, Texas.
