Copenhagen, Denmark –  Evie Craig, a native of Mustang and lifelong softball player has been selected to represent the Danish Junior Women’s National Team at the European Championships next month in Barcelona as the Team Captain and catcher. Getting her start in T-ball with the Mustang Lightning in 2006, Evie has played in all over the world over the past four years, including Peru, Norway, Brazil – where twice she won “Best Catcher” – and now in Denmark.

Craig’s mother is Danish. She was scouted at a joint Danish-Czech softball camp being administered by the Danish Women’s National Team head coach Kevin Stockford. After joining the Women’s National Team at 16, and being the youngest to play in last year’s Women’s European Championship, Denmark reformed the Junior Women’s National Team, of which she was selected Captain.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to play at international tournaments and represent both Denmark and my home state of Oklahoma,” Craig said. “It provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play against great talent. Win or lose, playing at the international level will help me overcome challenges both in softball and in life.”

Denmark will face off against the Czech Republic and Belgium in their pool beginning Aug. 1, with the top two teams advancing to the double-elimination tournament.

Prior to her trip to Barcelona for the European Championships, Craig will throw out the Ceremonial First Pitch on July 23, at the OKC Dodgers home game at 6:30 p.m.
