OKLAHOMA CITY – The Northeastern State women’s golf team won its second-consecutive tournament after finishing first at the UCO/RCB Bank Classic. The tournament was held at the par-71, 6,001-yard Lincoln Park East Golf Course.

The RiverHawks shot 288 in Tuesday’s final round to finish atop the leaderboard at 12-over-par 580 (292-288). They finished one stroke better than host Central Oklahoma, who landed at 13-over 581 (293-288).

Henderson State landed in third at 22-over 590 (296-294), while Lindenwood placed fourth at 25-over 593 (297-296). Arkansas Tech, the tournament’s overnight leader, slipped to fifth and finished at 29-over 597 (289-308).

NSU was led by junior Baylee Price, who carded a career-low 68 in the final round to finish in solo second at 1-under 141 (73-68). The two-round total was also the lowest of Price’s career. She also registered her 14th career top-5 effort.

True freshman Ebba Moberg tied for fifth at 2-over 144 (72-72), while fellow true freshman Halie Wright landed at T-8 with a 4-over score of 146 (72-74). The final true freshman in NSU’s lineup, Kelsey Lumpkin, tied for 18th at 7-over 149 (75-74), and senior Charter Lawson rounded out the winning effort with a T-42 performance at 13-over 155 (77-78).

“This was huge for us,” coach Scott Varner said. “We are starting to look like the great teams of the past that fight all the way down to the wire. I’m super proud of our players. Winning breeds winning.

“The women fought for every shot down to the finish. We knew (UCO’s) Marla (Souvannasing) was deep and Daniela (Martinez) was playing well. It was going to take a complete team effort.

“I preach and preach about the value of every shot. I tell them all the time that even if you personally don’t have your best stuff, you still have to continue to fight for every single shot. We had all of our players fighting for every shot this week. That is the essence of team golf.”

The winning effort is the second in a row for Northeastern State, who claimed the MIAA Fall Preview title Sept. 28-29 in Jefferson City, Missouri.

The RiverHawks will now prepare for the Western Washington Invitational, which will be held Oct. 12-13 in Bellingham, Washington.
