OCU cheer places second in NAIA national, dance sixth; SGU cheer finishes ninth

The NAIA Competitive Dance and Cheer National Invitational was held on Saturday in Davenport, Iowa, and Oklahoma was represented in both areas of competition.

Oklahoma City University came up just short of the title in cheer, finishing second to Martin Methodist (Tenn.) The final numbers showed the Stars within two points, 94.44 to 92.80. OCU was trying to secure a third consecutive cheer title.

St. Gregory’s finished ninth in the standings, out of the 12 teams that earned bids to the national level.

The OCU dance squad came in sixth in the dance category. Host school St. Ambrose took first place overall.

The teams will next compete at the NDA/NCA championships in Daytona, Fla., on Apr. 7-8.
