RSU’s Degnan posts school-record eight RBI in win over Randall

CLAREMORE, Okla. –Junior outfielder Bradley Degnan set a school record with eight RBI in a dominating 17-0 victory over Randall on Thursday (Feb. 2) in the first game of a three-game at the Diamond Sports Complex.

Degnan, a junior from Woodside, Calif., totaled two home runs; including a grand slam homer in the sixth inning to break the school record with eight RBI. The previous record of seven RBI was held by Zach Hamby and Colton West. For the game, Degnan was 3-for-5 hitting with the eight RBI and three runs scored.

The Hillcats started the scoring with six runs in the second inning to build an early 6-0 advantage. A sacrifice fly from Sam Davison started the scoring, and two more runs came home on a double by Brooks Douglass. Matt Seubert and Degnan each tripled to bring in runs and a Chris Miguel doubled to left upped the edge to 6-0.

Degnan hit his first home run in the fourth inning, a three-run shot to right, to make it 9-0.

RSU added one run in the fifth inning on an RBI single from Seubert up the middle.

The Cats posted seven runs in the sixth inning for the final score of 17-0. After plating runs on a single, walk and fielder’s choice, Degnan knocked his grand slam to right to clear the bases.

Spencer Bivens, a junior from State College, Pa., picked up the win in his first career start. He went 6.0 innings with five strikeouts and allowed four hits. Justin Magstadt pitched the final inning, totaling one strikeout.

The top of the lineup produced for the navy and red with the top six of the order getting at least one hit, including multi-hits from the top four. Seubert and Degnan each totaled a game-high three hits. Seven Hillcats registered hits in the win.

RU’s JW Moore started with two hits and went 2-for-3 in the game. Mason Walkingstick pitched the complete game for the Saints, totaling 168 pitches.
