Sitting Around on Thanksgiving Afternoon…

Quotes from around the living room after the big meal today following the question, ‘What are you thankful for in sports this year?’

“When the Cowboys have the late afternoon game so we can watch it and relax.”

“Basketball and football are going on at the same time.”

“Dominoes.”

“Baseball is over.”

“This is not a year for a Colts’ fan to be thankful.”

“I wish they would all go on strike.” [Editor’s note: This came from someone who is not a sports fan – a rarity in our family.]

“I’m just glad that I get to play again next week.” [Note: This one is from my daughter who got a concussion in her first basketball game as a freshman and had to sit out for a week.]

“I’m thankful for football because it gives the band a chance to get on the field at halftime.” [Note: This one is from one of my other daughters who, as you can guess, is in the band.]

“Oklahoma football in general (OU, OSU, Tulsa) is relevant.”

And remember, no matter what kind of year you’ve had, there’s always something for which to be thankful.  And if you still can’t find that something, keep this in mind:

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” 1 Thess. 5:18.  Although you may not be thankful for all things, you can be thankful IN all things.  It’s all a matter of having a thankful heart.  And it’s something that you can have throughout the year.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Joey and Matthew
