We’re getting ready for Bedlam without the hype that we all hoped for at the first of the season. Dreams of two undefeated teams playing for a spot in the National Championship game dashed by the likes of Texas Tech, Baylor and Iowa State. Yes, that’s right Texas Tech, Baylor and Iowa State. I wouldn’t have called that one heading into the season but isn’t that one of the things that makes college football so great. The fact that every game counts is tough to swallow at times.
Even with the loss to Iowa State, the Cowboys are still playing for a potential national championship berth. They still have some work to do to be able to sway the voters. The Sooners however still have hopes of another Big 12 title with a win. So who has the greatest motivation heading into Bedlam?
Motivation plays such a huge roll in college football. So what motivation do the Sooners have? The obvious is the fact that it is the second biggest rivalry of the year. Knocking the Cowboys completely out of the national championship race would be satisfying for an Oklahoma team that finds itself on the outside looking in. Is this motivation enough? Winning the Big 12 again is a great motivator – another ring and another trophy. I don’t think it will be tough for the Sooners to get up for this game even after coming out pretty flat against the Cyclones this weekend.
The motivation for the Cowboys will be huge as they attempt to not only win the Big 12 out right, but also secure a spot in the national championship. With this motivation also comes the pressure. The pressure of the voters that want see why they should put the Cowboys in the national championship. OSU will not only need to win, but win big to knock Alabama out of the number two spot. I don’t know if the Cowboys can come in this year with the same chip on their shoulder that they usually have for Bedlam. I do think the hopes of playing for it all will have them ready for a great game.
Even though it may not have the excitement that we all envisioned at the first of the season, it will still be one of the biggest games of the year.
Motivation: Edge-OSU
