WINONA LAKE, Indiana – Oklahoma Baptist defeated NAIA opponent Point University (Georgia) 58-50 in the NCCAA National Quarterfinals Wednesday night at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.
Despite shooting just 21-for-68 (30.9 percent) from the field, the Lady Bison played with a lead for much of the game. After the teams were deadlocked 28-28 at the half, OBU outscored the Skyhawks 19-11 in the third quarter and extended the lead to as much as 11 on the way to a victory.
After a short turnaround following the NCCAA Regional in Lakewood, Colorado, the Lady Bison showed signs of fatigue at times, but were still able to come away with a win and advance.
“We didn’t shoot really well tonight and in the first half we didn’t block out very well on the boards. Overall, we gave the effort we needed to get the win in the second half and rebounded a lot better, but we still have to show up ready to play,” said OBU head coach Casi Bays.
Kiara Moore paced the Lady Bison with 21 points, knocking down 3-of-6 three-pointers. The rest of the team shot a combined 1-of-17 from behind the three-point arc.
OBU finished with a plus-eight rebounding margin, and enjoyed a 21-10 advantage on the offensive glass. Tasha Edge grabbed a game-high 12 boards and added eight points. Junior point guard Cameerah Graves scored 10 points, dished out six assists, and pulled down seven rebounds.
Now 16-15, the Lady Bison will either face a rematch with top-seeded Colorado Christian or play Bluefield College (Virginia), in the NCCAA National Semifinal. Tipoff is set for 4:15 p.m. Central on Thursday afternoon.
