Rateliff becomes OCU’s first three-time academic All-American

OKLAHOMA CITY – Jamie Rateliff became Oklahoma City University’s first three-time CoSIDA academic all-American after she took first-team honors on the college-division softball team.

Rateliff also took the NAIA scholar-athlete award along with teammates Maria Gomez and Emily Krienke. Krienke and Rateliff snared their second NAIA scholar-athlete accolade.

A senior biochemistry major from Mustang, Okla., Rateliff boasts of a 3.65 cumulative grade-point average. Rateliff garnered second-team academic all-American recognition as a junior and third-team acclaim as a sophomore. 

Rateliff posted a .390 batting average, 18 doubles, 16 home runs, 57 RBIs and seven stolen bases this year. As a Star, Rateliff hit .362 with 174 runs, 274 hits, 53 doubles, three triples, 39 homers, 199 RBIs and 32 steals. In the circle, she amassed a 36-7 record, 2.03 earned run average, 23 complete games, eight shutouts, four saves and 120 strikeouts in 286.1 innings. She hurled a perfect game at USAO on March 28, 2013.

Rateliff’s accolades include three-time academic all-district, three-time all-Sooner Athletic Conference, two-time NFCA all-NAIA Southwest Region, three-time SAC pitcher of the week, league player of the week for the week of Feb. 16-22 and first-team NFCA NAIA all-American as a sophomore.

Gomez, a senior from Yaracuy, Venezuela, owns a 3.51 GPA studying mass communications. Gomez went 19-1 with a 1.94 ERA, nine complete games, two whitewashes and 93 strikeouts in 119 innings. Gomez and Abby Meador combined on a perfect game vs. Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on April 10 at Ann Lacy Stadium to give coach Phil McSpadden more wins against four-year schools than any other college softball coach.

In her career, Gomez accumulated a 32-4 record, 2.13 ERA, 19 complete games, five shutouts and 187 strikeouts in 217 innings. Gomez earned second-team all-conference this year, SAC pitcher of the week for March 16-22, academic all-district and NFCA all-America scholar athlete. 

Krienke, a senior from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, compiled a 3.92 GPA pursuing a biomedical sciences degree. Krienke hit .524 with three doubles and nine RBIs this season. In her OCU career, Krienke had a .331 average, 85 runs, 111 hits, 23 doubles, four triples, eight homers, 66 RBIs, 12 steals plus a 4-1 record pitching. She is an NFCA all-America scholar athlete, two-time academic all-district and one of OCU’s 10 two-time CoSIDA academic all-Americans.

To be eligible for academic all-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Academic all-district selections gain consideration for academic all-American.
Since the program’s inception in 1952, the College Sports Information Directors of America has bestowed academic all-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
