CLAREMORE, Okla. – More than 200 student-athletes representing all 12 athletic programs at Rogers State University took part in #GivingTuesday Dec. 1.

“Giving Tuesday has gained national attention over the past few years, and we at RSU wanted to take it to another level and have our student-athletes give back to the local community,” Director of Athletics Ryan Erwin said. “We have a special group of student-athletes, coaches, and staff that continually take time out of their busy schedules to engage and serve others. Tuesday was no exception as we had the entire Hillcat athletic department interacting and serving hundreds of people across Claremore.”

Since 2012, #GivingTuesday has been a global initiative dedicated to giving back and creating a day of generosity and charity to kick off the holiday season. Many use the time to make their holiday and end-of-year charitable donations.

The Hillcats took that notion to heart and went a step further than the traditional donation requests. Student-athletes, coaches, and administrators spent the afternoon throughout Claremore volunteering by providing a helping hand, decorating for the holidays, playing games, and even helped celebrate a 100th birthday. RSU athletics visited Roosa Elementary School, the Claremore Veteran’s Center, Claremore Nursing Home, Wood Manor, Autumn Wood, Brookdale, and Brookfield.
