SHAWNEE – Jordan Beech, a graduate assistant in the SWOSU Sports Information office since August 2014, has accepted the position of Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach at Oklahoma Baptist. OBU made the official announcement on Monday afternoon.
In addition to his coaching duties, Beech will assist with the Sports Information efforts at Oklahoma Baptist, a second-year provisional member of the Great American Conference, although they are an associate member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) for lacrosse beginning in spring of 2017.
“I’m incredibly excited to take on the position of Women’s Lacrosse Coach at Oklahoma Baptist,” Beech said. “The SWOSU Athletic Department and the Sports Management program have been extremely beneficial in preparing me for this next step in my career. I’m grateful to both SWOSU for developing my skills and OBU for allowing me the opportunity to pursue both areas of athletics that I enjoy.”
Beech has a background in lacrosse that includes coaching the Edmond Lacrosse Club in 2013-14 and the Deer Creek Lacrosse Club in its inaugural season, 2014-15. He also played one season each at the club level for Oklahoma and Oklahoma State as part of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association and he holds a Level 2 Coach’s certification from US Lacrosse. In the spring of 2015, he served as a media relations volunteer at the NCAA Lacrosse Championship Weekend in Philadelphia.
During his tenure at SWOSU, Beech has served as the primary contact for several sports, handling game operations, press releases, statistics and record keeping for those sports while also earning his master’s degree from the school. His media relations experience goes beyond SWOSU as Beech additionally served as a contributing writer for OklahomaSports.net and as the Communications Director for the Heartland High School Lacrosse Conference, both volunteer efforts.
“Jordan has been an indispensable member of the SWOSU Athletics staff the past year and a half,” Sports Information Director Doug Self said. “In a short period of time, he’s developed into a tremendous asset to our department and I know he will do the same at OBU. His tremendous work ethic and versatility will enable him to have great success throughout his career.”
Beech will assume his duties at Oklahoma Baptist on Wednesday and prepare his team for the 2016 season, which begins in February.
