SGU softball coach D.J. Sanchez is headed to Nebraska.
Sanchez is taking the position of head softball coach at the University of Nebraska Omaha.
“I’m really excited,” Sanchez said. “I’m really honored to have the opportunity to lead the program at UNO.”
Sanchez put together a record of 172-47 in her four seasons at the helm of the Cavs. SGU finished 2016 at 49-7 and was ranked No. 5 in the final NAIA poll.
She reflected on her time in Shawnee, but looked ahead to what this change means personally.
“St. Gregory’s is a very special place. I love that athletics department and I love the university. We had a great four years there.
“For me, being from Illinois, this gives me an opportunity to be a little closer to my family that is still there. Leaving St. Gregory’s is bittersweet for me because I truly love that university. But I’m looking forward to moving on to Omaha.”
UNO has an NCAA Division I athletic program and competes in the Summit League, the conference in which Oral Roberts University is also a member.
