OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels celebrated their annual “Dig Pink Night” with a convincing 3-0 victory over the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Drovers on Tuesday night inside the Gaulke Activity Center.
After the Drovers opened the match by scoring the first four points of the opening set, the Lady Evangels got going and scored 10 of the next 12 points behind a pair of kills from Mary Burkhead.
Leading 12-9, the Lady Evangels got three kills from Laurel Church to spark an 8-2 run that resulted in a commanding 20-11 lead.
The Lady Evangels went on to a 25-18 win in the first set and then took a 2-0 lead with an identical score of 25-18 in the second set.
In the third set, the Lady Evangels were in control at 21-13 when Burkhead and Melissa Hoppal each put in a kill to help MACU close out the set and match in dominating fashion, 25-13.
Church led the Lady Evangels (10-15, 2-11 SAC) with 11 kills and Emily Lynch delivered 33 assists.
Larissa Runyan had a team-high 18 digs and Camera Broadnax added 15 digs.
Dana Stepankova paced the Drovers (2-13, 2-10 SAC) with nine kills, while Olivia Seng had a team-best 14 assists. Hayley Allen chipped in with 13 assists along with a team-high 16 digs.
Next up the Lady Evangels will play at Wayland Baptist University Saturday morning (Oct. 22) at 11 a.m. in Plainview, Texas.
