RSU’s Harvey advances to NCAA Championship

DENVER, Colo. – Junior Baylor Harvey advanced to the NCAA Division II National Championships as he placed 12th at the NCAA South Central Region Championships on Saturday. The Hillcats as a team placed 12th.

Harvey, a junior from Cleveland, Oklahoma, finished 12th overall with a time of 32:03 in the 10,000 meter race. He was the first individual performer to qualify as the top 11 finishers before him advanced due to team performance. With his showing, Harvey earned All-South Central Region honors. He now will race in the NCAA Division II National Championship on Nov. 19 in Saint Leo, Florida. Harvey becomes the first Hillcat to advance to a NCAA Division II championship.

The rest of the Hillcat team put together a great day as the team placed 13th overall, and second for Heartland Conference teams. Sophomore Seth Whittington covered the course in 34:04 for 75th place. Colton Green finished 15 seconds later at 34:19. In the fourth spot for the navy and red was Ryan Alexander with his time of 34:27. Nick Williams ended with a time of 34:45 in the regional for the final spot in the team scoring.

Daniel Driskill crossed the 10,000 meter course in a time of 35:49. In the seventh spot for RSU was Brooks Cataudella at 36:16.

The Hillcat team finished in front of Oklahoma Christian along with other league teams Lubbock Christian, Newman, St. Edward’s and Oklahoma Panhandle State. RSU narrowed the gap with conference champion Dallas Baptist, but ranked two spots behind the Patriots.

The top five teams advanced to the National Championship. Adams State, Colorado Mines, CSU-Pueblo, Western State and West Texas A&M will all compete in Florida for the national championship in two weeks.
