LAWTON – Aggie fans began the game by covering the court with toys for kids, and Aggie players ended the game by covering the court with celebration after Tyler Williams launched a half court buzzer beater to down Lubbock Christian, 79-76, on Saturday evening.
After trailing for much of the game, with a little over a minute to go the Aggies were down by nine points, which they would chip down to just one over 30 seconds by forcing two turnovers and drawing foul shots on each while scoring eight unanswered points.
With 45 seconds remaining, the Chaps went to the line making both to extend their lead to three, which Trey Hall evened ten seconds later with his fourth three-pointer of the half.
LCU missed their final layup at seven seconds, which Williams rebounded and delivered the half-court shot keeping CU to a perfect 4-0 in the Aggie Gym and 8-3 overall. Lubbock Christian drops to 5-4.
Williams scored in the double figures for his fourth game in a row by tallying 15 points, which Hall, JV Long and Delvonte Pierre matched in the victory.
Long added six assists, Christian Barrett led at the boards with seven rebounds, and Hall contributed three of the Aggies’ seven team blocks. Tyus Momoh forced three of CU’s seven steals.
Overall, both sides shot an even 46.4 percent (26-for-56) from the field. Despite going 0-for-8 from the arc in the first half, Cameron would make six deep balls in the second versus the Chaps’ 4-for-11 night from the perimeter.
At the line, the LCU shot 20-for-27, and Cameron shot 21-for-33 from the charity stripe.
Cameron will return to Lone Star Conference action on Dec. 17 by hosting Texas A&M-Kingsville in the Aggie Gym.
