LANGSTON – Langston University Director of Athletic Donnita Drain-Rogers has finalized the tournament schedule for the Inaugural National HBCU Softball Classic which will be held at the ASA Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City, Okla. on March 3-4, 2017.
This historic event will showcase eight HBCU colleges and universities from across the country (Southern University, Langston, Huston-Tillotson, Talladega College, Texas Southern, Jarvis Christian, Grambling State and Lincoln University).
First pitch starts at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 3 when the Langston Lady Lions take on Southern University on OGE Energy Field and Texas Southern faces Huston-Tillotson at the same time on Integris Field. Each day will feature four games on two fields for a total of 16 games for the tournament.
“When you think of softball, you instantly think of the ASA Hall of Fame and all of the events they host on site,” said Langston softball coach Hosea Bell. “This is the premier place for softball in the United States and I’m so thankful that we were able to use this venue.”
“It’s a great opportunity for us as a university but also for the institutions participating,” Rogers added. “Five, 10, 20 years down the line each one of these athletes can say I played at the ASA Hall of Fame and that in itself is a tremendous accomplishment. So we’re excited and ready to get going.”
The classic will take part at the historic ASA Hall of Fame Complex which hosts the OSSAA high school state championship, the ASA/USA Slow Pitch Championship Series, the World Cup of Softball and the NCAA Women’s College World Series.
