TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State completed their regular season with a 9-0 sweep over Missouri Western State for their third straight outright MIAA regular season title on Saturday.
The RiverHawks ran the table on the league for the third straight season and has won 38 in a row in MIAA regular season play. This is fourth straight year that NSU has won the MIAA regular season title and shared the crown with Southwest Baptist in 2014.
Saturday’s win was the tenth in a row for NSU and the first league title for head coach Jon Parker who joined the program in late October to lead the program.
The match for the RiverHawks went quickly with NSU sweeping all three doubles courts. Molly Worden and Valeriia Efimenko won their ninth match in a row with an 8-3 in the top doubles slot.
NSU had no troubles getting through Missouri Western in singles play, Easton Parker playing the three-slot rallied back from a 7-6 set one loss to take the next two 6-2, 10-8 for the match sweep.
The loss to the RiverHawks sends Missouri Western to 4-16 overall and 0-8 in the MIAA.
Northeastern State will be the MIAA’s top-seed in its league tournament which will be on Apr. 18-20 in Lincoln, Neb.
