PITTSBURG, Kan. –Senior Ricky Bell set schools records in the 60 and 200 meters, but junior D’Jiron Lilley swiped the 60 meters record in his race later on at the Third Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 9-10) at the Robert W. Plaster Center. Senior Baylor Harvey also set a new school record in the 3,000 meters.
Bell broke the school record in the 60 meter dash in qualifying on Friday as the senior finally went under 6.8 at 6.75 seconds in the race to win his section.
Lilley stole the record back in the 60 meter finals on Saturday in a time of 6.74 seconds as the junior placed fifth overall in the finals.
Bell set his second indoor school record at the meet with a time of 21.66 seconds in the finals of the 200 meters. The senior finished in eighth overall in the event.
Harvey lowered his school record in the 3,000 meters as he ran a provisional time of 8:15.86, but was edged out by Nehemia Too of Harding and Ricky Harvie of West Texas A&M. It was a rematch from two weeks ago at the same track for Harvey and Too when Harvey won by three seconds.
Audrianna Morgan finished in 10th in the 60 meters for the women in 7.70 seconds as she just missed the finals by 0.03. Sch’Cara Young was 17th in 7.84 seconds. Morgan took 11th in the 200 meters in 24.94 seconds.
Colton Green was fourth in the unseeded 3,000 meters with a time of 8:44.28.
Quintin Powell posted a fourth place finish in the unseeded 400 meter dash as he timed 48.88 seconds in the race. The top two in the event were NCAA Division I runners.
Hailey Gillispie placed sixth in the unseeded 800 meter run with a time of 2:20.00 to barely miss out on the win by 1.68 seconds.
RSU’s men’s 4×400 relay team of Powell, Elonte Battle, Blake Fisher and Jacques Morgan timed 3:19.33 in their section. In the women’s 4×400, Morgan, Gillispie, Young and Alaina Orban put together a time of 4:02.16.
The Hillcats now prepare for the NCAA Division II National Indoor Championships on March 9-10 in Pittsburg, Kan.
