HAYS, Kan. – Bo White notched his first-career hat trick in leading the NSU men’s soccer team to a 4-1 victory over the University of Sioux Falls Sunday afternoon at FHSU Soccer Stadium.
The senior midfielder scored twice in the first half and once in the second as the RiverHawks (3-1) bounced back strong from their first setback of the early 2012 campaign.
NSU outshot the Cougars 23-8, and both teams took four corner kicks.
White’s first goal came in the 11th minute off a pass from junior midfielder Juan Gonzalez. The game-winning goal was scored in the 26th minute with an assist from sophomore midfielder Jordan Schmoker.
Both Gonzalez and Schmoker recorded their first points of the season.
Brice Holiday cut the lead in half for Sioux Falls (0-3) in the 38th minute, and the RiverHawks took a 2-1 lead into halftime.
White notched his hat trick in the 74th minute off a free kick, and freshman forward Joel Mendoza added his first-career goal in the 77th minute with Schmoker recording his second assist of the game.
White has scored five goals in NSU’s first four games this season. Counting his four-goal effort in the team’s final exhibition contest, White now has nine goals in his last five contests. He scored three goals all of last year.
Senior goalkeeper Jordan Ladbrooke improved to 3-1 after saving four shots and allowing one goal. Freshman Eric Shephard played the final 7:53 and was not bothered with any shots on goal.
Kyle Simons (0-3) took the loss after allowing all four goals and making eight saves in 86:33. Jacob Brenner finished the game after Simons was pulled.
Northeastern State is now set for its first home contest of the season. The RiverHawks will debut at DeLoache Field against Harding University at 1 p.m. Sept. 15.
