ALVA – The Northwestern Oklahoma State University women’s basketball team released its 2018-19 slate on Tuesday, which included three non-conference home contests and a slot in the Oahu Thanksgiving Classic in Hawaii.
Northwestern will kick off its season campaign on the road at Tabor College (Kan.) on Nov. 5 before competing in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association / Great American Conference Challenge on Nov. 9 and 10 in Tahlequah, Okla. The Lady Rangers will take on Central Oklahoma (22-7) to open the challenge and face host team Northeastern State (10-17) the following day.
UCO closed its 2017-18 season ranked No. 6 in the Central Region.
NWOSU will play host to Emporia State (17-11) in the home opener on Nov. 15, while Lady Ranger coach Tasha Diesellhorst’s alma mater, Oklahoma Christian (10-18), rolls into Percefull Fieldhouse on Nov. 20.
The Lady Rangers will get an opportunity to feast on Thanksgiving Day in Honolulu, Hawaii, when they face Minot State (N.D.) (14-13) in the Oahu Thanksgiving Classic, followed by a showdown with the home team Chiminade (2-20) the on Nov. 23.
The GAC campaign will tipoff when Northwestern returns home on Nov. 29 against Southern Nazarene (10-16) and Oklahoma Baptist (13-16), before hosting Newman (Kan.) (17-12) in the final non-conference contest of the season on Dec. 4.
Northwestern will play host to rival and defending GAC regular season champions Southwestern Oklahoma State (26-5) on Jan. 17, and travel to Weatherford to face the Lady Bulldogs on Valentine’s Day. Defending GAC Tournament champion, Arkansas Tech (26-4) enters Percefull Fieldhouse on Jan. 26.
SWOSU and ATU each receiving bids into the NCAA Tournament last season as they finished ranked No. 2 and No. 8 in the region, respectively.
The GAC Tournament will once again return to the beautiful community of Barltesville, Okla., on March 6 through March 10.
