AUSTIN, Texas – The Rogers State Women’s Basketball team picked up an important 59-56 win over St. Edward’s University Wednesday night in Heartland Conference action.
The Hillcats snapped a two-game losing skid with the victory while picking up the program’s first-ever victory at St. Edward’s in six tries.
Rogers State was led by Azaria Floyd, Lauren Schuldt and Alicia Brown, who all finished in double figures to power the Hillcats to the narrow victory; RSU’s third consecutive win over the Hilltoppers.
Floyd finished with a team-high 13 points in the game to go along with a pair of rebounds and assists.
Schuldt finished one rebound shy of a double-double, as the senior collected 12 points and nine rebounds. Schuldt also had a pair of blocks and steals.
Schuldt also closed her gap to 1,000 career points down to just 12 in the contest.
Brown finished with 11 points and had three rebounds and a steal.
Ke’Aunna Johnson led the Hillcats off the bench, finishing with eight points, two rebounds and two assists.
The Hillcats fell behind by as much as seven in the first quarter of the game, but the visitors outscored St. Edward’s 17-8 in the second quarter to take a two-point lead into the break.
The Hillcats would open the lead to 10 on multiple occasions in the third quarter, but the hosts would rally, cutting the deficit to just three points with 10 minutes to go in the game.
The lead for Rogers State would fluctuate from two points to seven points throughout the fourth quarter, but the Hillcats held off the Hilltoppers to see out the victory.
Rogers State will return home Saturday for the first of three-straight at home to close out the home schedule. The Hillcats will face Lubbock Christian and tip off with the Lady Chaps at 1:00 p.m.
