IRVINE, Calif. – The Roughnecks go on their first road trip of the season and traveled to Southern California to take on Orange County SC. With a slow start to the first half and maintaining only 40 percent possession through the first 45 minutes, Orange County SC was able to find the back of the net twice compared to the Roughnecks solo goal by Cristhian Altamirano off a penalty kick.
The second half proved to be an exciting one with a total of five goals between the two teams. Shortly after the second half began Tulsa’s Janu Silva finds the back of the net, equalizing the score. The game would finish in favor of the Roughnecks with a final score of 5-3, allowing the visitors to walk away with 3 points on the road.
The Roughnecks will be back in action next Wednesday, March 20thwhen they travel to Albuquerque to take on New Mexico United.
“After drawing at home in our first match we left that game feeling like we could do much more,” head coach Michael Nsien said. “We wanted to test ourselves this first away trip to see what we are made of. Started the game a bit flat but it was crucial we got the goal just before the half. We made the right adjustments at the half and the players played with expression and belief. We want to continue growing in confidence and spirit and game by game see where this takes us.”
