Former Oklahoma Sooner Trae Young recently made a donation to help eliminate more than a million dollars in medical debt.
Young, who now plays for the Atlanta Hawks, donated $10,000 to RIP Medical Debt, a non-profit organization that uses donations to purchase bundled medical debt on the secondary market. According to its mission statement on its website, RIP Medical Debt “empowers donors to forgive billions in oppressive medical debt.”
The group specifically pinpoints those who are in or near the poverty level to buy up their debt and forgive it.
Young’s $10,000 donation was used to erase $1,059,186 compiled by more than 500 people in the city of Atlanta, according to reports.
