OKLAHOMA CITY – Mark Berokoff has taken over as Oklahoma City University head men’s basketball coach.
Berokoff comes to Oklahoma City after leading Randall to three national championships.
“I’m excited to have Mark Berokoff joining our team as head men’s basketball coach,” Oklahoma City athletic director Jim Abbott said. “Mark is a proven head coach that has led teams to great success on and off the court. I’m looking forward to his contributions to the successful tradition of our men’s basketball program.”
In nine years at Randall, Berokoff guided the Saints to three national titles (2016, 2017 and 2018), one national runner-up finish, three regional titles, five national semifinal appearances and seven national-tournament berths on the National Christian College Athletic Association Division II level. Berokoff, who was also the athletic director, collected national coach of the year twice (2016 and 2019).
Berokoff mentored five national player of the year award winners (Trey Sneed 2016, ’17 and ’18; Antonio Wilson ’19 and Jordan Marshall 2021), 16 all-Americans, three national tournament outstanding players and one scholar all-American. Randall challenged teams within the Sooner Athletic Conference on a regular basis. Randall went 147-122 under Berokoff.
Oklahoma City boasts of six national championships won in 1991, 1992, 1994, 1996, 2007 and 2008 as well as finishing national runner-up in 2006.
“I am incredibly excited to be the next coach of the Oklahoma City University men’s basketball program,” Berokoff said. “OCU is one of the most tradition-rich schools in the NAIA, and I’m honored to be a part of that. I am looking forward to getting started at OCU and continuing the tradition of excellence.”
Prior to Randall, Berokoff served as an assistant coach at Louisiana Tech, Texas State and Hill College. Berokoff contributed to one of Louisiana Tech’s finest seasons with a 24-11 record and a berth in the College Insider Tournament quarterfinals.
At the high school level, Berokoff had a career record of 225-77 in 10 years of coaching, including winning the California Interscholastic Federation Championship. He also was involved with the Los Angeles Rockfish AAU team where he coached more than 50 future Division I players.
In 2005, he became as the vice president of operations and head coach of the Lincoln Generals in the All-American Professional Basketball League (AAPBL). Other highlights including coaching at the prestigious ABCD Camp led by legendary Sonny Vaccaro, and helping establish the 1Dream Foundation, a non-profit organization which provides educational opportunities for foreign athletes.
In addition to coaching basketball, Coach Berokoff was the head coach of the Bandits in the hit television series “Slamball” on SpikeTV and was also one of the basketball coordinators for the movie “Coach Carter.”
