WOMEN

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern put four players in double-figures and pulled away down the stretch to pick up a 73-58 win over Southern Arkansas on Thursday night in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The Savage Storm win back-to-back games for the first time this season and improve to 4-7 overall on the season and 2-3 in Great American Conference play heading into Saturday’s 2 p.m. meeting with Arkansas-Monticello in Durant.

Emily Williams paced all scorers on the contest with 17 points on the strength of a 9-of-11 performance from the free throw line.

She was joined in double-digits by Haley Schaefer with 12 points as well as Taylor Richards and Cheree Kiser who each tallied 10.

Bailey Welch turned in five points, but directed the offense to the tune of seven assists.

Williams also led the Storm on the boards with seven as SE out-rebounded the Lady Muleriders 43-to-33 on the night.

Southeastern shot 44.4 percent from the field for the game, staying consistent over the two halves, while the defense held SAU to 34.5 percent shooting and forced 26 turnovers, 13 of which were steals.

SE held a 42-22 edge on points in the paint and also held a 20-point advantage in bench points.

The contest got off to a slow start as SE took an early 5-0 lead, and was up 7-2 at the first media timeout.

The Storm would maintain its lead until a 10-0 SAU run would give the Muleriders its first lead of the game at 17-15 with 8:41 to play in the half.

The teams would trade bucket until a 9-0 run would give SE the lead for good at 29-21.

The lead would grow to 10 points before settling on a 33-26 Storm lead at halftime.

The SE lead would get as close as three points before would extend it to a two possession game for much of the second half.

A Kiser layup with 3:53 to play would push the lead back into double-digits.

That would be followed by a 13-2 run that gave the Storm a 73-52 lead, its largest of the game, before finishing with a 73-58 win.

MEN

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern shook off the rust of nearly a month off, with five players reaching double-digits en route to a 68-59 win over Southern Arkansas on Thursday night in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The win was the fourth-straight for the Savage Storm as they improve to 8-3 overall on the season and 4-1 in Great American Conference play heading into Saturday’s 4 p.m. home matchup against Arkansas-Monticello.

Andris Misters paced all scorers with 14 points in the game on the strength of a 4-of-7 night shooting from three-point range.

He was joined in double-figures by Mateus Oliveira and Antonio Worthy who each had 12 points, as well as Chris Roussell andTravis Timmons who each had 11 points.

Misters and Timmons each dished out four assists as SE tallied 17 helpers as a team.

Southeastern held a 37-to-33 edge on the glass as a team, led by Oliveira’s nine rebounds, while Roussell added seven.

Roussell and Timmons each added four steals in the effort as SE forced 17 turnovers, 13 of which were steals.

The Storm held a 19-10 edge in points off turnovers as well as a 26-20 advantage in points in the paint.

Misters drained a pair of threes to open the game with SE in front 6-0, but SAU would fight back and eventually take a 12-11 lead with 12:24 to play in the first half.

The Storm would retake the lead at the 11:42 mark on an Antonio Worthy layup and would pull ahead by as many as 14 points before settling on a 36-25 lead at halftime.

SE would push its second-half lead to as many as 17 points with 8:59 to play before SAU would rally and cut the advantage to just seven points with 2:57 to play.

A pair of Misters free throws would slow the comeback and the Muleriders would get no closer than seven points as the Storm would hang on for the 68-59 win.
