OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels cruised to a wire-to-wire victory over the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Drovers 69-50 in Sooner Athletic Conference action Thursday evening (Jan. 24) at the Gaulke Activity Center.
The Lady Evangels (12-6, 3-4 SAC) took control in the first half when Sarah Martin scored five straight points and two free throws by Parris Price made it 19-10 at the 7:42 mark.
After USAO came within five, consecutive threes by April Williams built the lead to double-figures at 25-14 with 4:34 left and the Lady Evangels took a 32-22 lead into the break.
Leading 42-35 at the 14:39 mark of the second half, the Lady Evangels out-scored the Drovers 17-3 over the next seven minutes to stretch the edge to a comfortable 59-39 margin.
Buckets from Kelsie Dutton and Williams sandwiched around a three by Erica Jones gave MACU its largest lead of the game at 66-41 with 3:32 left.
Kourtni Williams, the SAC’s leading scorer, tallied a game-high 17 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Evangels. Williams has scored in double-figures in all 18 games so far this season.
Jones and Price chipped in with 10 points apiece and Sabrina McKinney dished out a game-high seven assists.
McKinney is now three assists shy of tying MACU’s all-time NAIA single-season assists record.
Ndeye Ngom scored nine points to lead the Drovers (9-11, 0-8 SAC) along with a team-high six boards.
The Lady Evangels were out-rebounded 39-32 but offset that by forcing 34 turnovers on the night.
Next up for the Lady Evangels is a matchup at Oklahoma Baptist University on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 26) at 3 p.m. in Shawnee, Okla.
