When an entire athletic department brings home hardware for what all of the program’s sports have done, that has to be one of the top moments.

That’s exactly what Oklahoma Baptist did.

The Bison won the Learfield Sports Director’s Cup for 2012-2013.   It is a crowing achievement in college athletics, as this award measures success for an institution by awarding points for what the school’s teams have done in the postseason.

It was the first Director’s Cup for OBU and the Bison won with 964.00 points, 167 points ahead of the second place finisher.

The Bison had four national champions, which were all won on the same day.  The men’s and women’s diving teams and swimming teams each won national titles on March 2 – a feat that made a case for top moment in and of itself.

There were also second place finishes in men’s and women’s outdoor track and a fourth place finish in cross country. The volleyball team made it to the NAIA quarterfinals and men’s basketball got to the second round of the national tournament.

By rule, only 12 teams’ points (six men’s and six women’s teams) were counted.  Points were also picked by baseball, women’s tennis and men’s and women’s indoor track and field, and points from men’s tennis and men’s soccer were left on the table.

The Bison scored 225 with the fall sports, 453 in the winter and 286 more in the spring.

All of this without football, which ended its 73-year hiatus this fall.
