Langston made it three for three this season against LSU-Shreveport, but this win meant even more.
The Lady Lions defeated the Lady Pilots, 77-52, in the first round of the Red River Athletic Conference tournament. Langston advances to take on Wiley in the semifinal on Friday at 1 p.m. in Marshall, Texas.
Langston coach David Johnson said that it was a good overall win and that it was a good team effort.
“I though we played pretty good defense and rebounded the ball well,” Johnson said. “I think we understand that there is an urgency and that we have to play well. It’s playoff time and it’s one game and you’re out.”
Langston is the No. 3 seed in the RRAC Tournament and is now 19-11 on the season.
Although Johnson regularly touts his team’s defensive effort, he was pleased with what the Lady Lions did offensively as well.
“We shared the ball well and we had a solid scoring attack. It was balanced and we took good shots.”
Lynette Holmes and Alex Adekunle each scored 18 points and Adekunle pulled down eight rebounds as well.
The two semifinal games and championship will be on the campus of East Texas Baptist University.
