As a current student at Oklahoma State University, I received a mass e-mail this morning from OSU president Burns Hargis. The e-mail was sent to let the OSU family know of the heartbreaking loss of Coach Kurt Budke and Coach Miranda Serna and the Branstetters.
I was stunned.
It was the first I had heard of the plane crash. And even into the afternoon hours, the sickening feeling in the pit of my stomach has not gone away. As president Hargis said today in his press conference, this is beyond words.
At Oklahoma Sports Blog, we know our Heavenly Father and offer our prayers for the families of those who are so directly affected by this tragedy. And having experienced the atmosphere in Stillwater for the past year and a half, I know this is something that reverberates throughout the campus.
I am cheering for an OSU victory over Iowa State in Ames tonight, but I can’t help but wonder how these young men can put this aside to play at a high level on the same day they learn about such a loss to the athletic family. If the Cowboys win, there is no question anymore that this is a team that can really overcome adversity.
