BETHANY — Arkansas Tech totaled nearly 600 yards of total offense as it spoiled Southern Nazarene’s home and season opener with a 62-14 win over SNU.
The Crimson Storm (0-1, 0-1 GAC) totaled 196 yards of total offense as James Mauro threw for 124 yards and two touchdowns on 14-of-29 passing. The Storm also rushed for 72 yards on 20 carries. Johnathan Martin and Elden Coleman Jr. each had 36 yards receiving as Coleman had three catches and a touchdown. Chris Hudson had the other receiving touchdown for SNU.
ATU needed just eight second to put the first points on the board after SNU fumbled the opening play and the Wonder Boys took a 7-0 lead. Tech led 17-0 after the first and took a 38-0 lead into halftime. ATU led 52-0 before SNU got on the board with 4:42 left in the third on a 33-yard pass from Mauro to Hudson. Coleman Jr. added the final score with 36 seconds left on a 10-yard pass from Mauro.
Isaiah Young led the SNU defense with 13 tackles while Konner Bent, Blake Giles and Larry Butler III all had 11. Giles also had a sack and three tackles for a loss.
