Jeff Butler’s homer in the ninth was neither the walk-off variety, nor did it leave the park.
But it was still a game-winner for Oklahoma Wesleyan.
Butler led off the top of the inning with an inside-the-park home run to break a 3-3 tie with Houston-Victoria.
Cody Riley hit a double later in the ninth and John Davenport, in pinch running duty, scored on a wild pitch as the region’s top-seeded Eagles secured a 5-3 win over the Jaguars.
Sam Haynes earned the win for the Eagles, now 53-6, and C.J. Gregory put away the final two batters to pick up the save.
OKWU will next face the Jackson region host, Bellhaven (Miss.), at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Â Bellhaven got past Oklahoma City, 9-8, in its opening game.
