WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Clinton defeated Weatherford 35-14 on Friday night under the lights of ASAP Energy Field on the campus of Southwestern Oklahoma State. Three different running backs scored at least one touchdown on the ground for the Red Tornados, as Clinton ran away with the rivalry victory.
Clinton used the first two drives of the game to do their damage for the first half, scoring touchdowns on both opportunities. After receiving the kick off, the Red Tornados went on a seven play, 42-yard drive all on the ground capped off by a two-yarder up the middle by Deonte Barker to start the scoring. Following a fumble recovery on defense, Clinton again went to the ground to score in four plays, covering 22 yards with Greyson Weedon pounding it in from a yard out to give CHS a two touchdown lead at 14-0 with 5:38 left in the first quarter.
Weatherford answered on their next drive following the turnover, with a touchdown of their own after an 11 play, 74-yard drive after Ryan Terry ran it in from a yard out but Weatherford then missed the ensuing extra point. Neither team could score the rest of the half after the Red Tornados punted on back-to-back drives and Weatherford threw an interception, and going into the locker room it was Clinton leading Weatherford 14-6.
After the break, it was all Clinton the rest of the way. CHS scored three-straight rushing touchdowns on their first three possessions out of the locker room to break the game open at 35-6. Christopher Brooks scored his first and only score of the night from three-yards out for the first touchdown of the half, followed by a Weedon rush from three-yards out six minutes later, and Barker saving the best for last gashing the Eagle defense for 77 yards and another score. Weatherford was able to get one back after Aaron Lamm busted off a 27-yarder and then converted on a two-point conversion, but that would be all the Eagles could get. When the clock struck zeros, it was Clinton beating Weatherford 35-14.
For the Clinton rushing attack, Barker led the way taking 11 handoffs for 127 yards and two touchdowns. Brooks ran the ball 13 times for 81 yards and a score of his own, and Weedon rushed nine times for 29 yards and two power runs for touchdowns from goal line distance. Quarterback Conor Wyer threw the ball a mere two times for CHS, completing half his passes for 13 yards. The Clinton defense forced two turnovers on the night, both interceptions, coming courtesy of Jason White and Jose Hernandez.
Weatherford was led by Lamm, who rushed for 99 yards on 17 carries and one touchdown. Quarterback Ryan Terry ran the ball 22 times for 66 yards and also one touchdown. Terry also threw for 38 yards after completing 6 of his 12 passes on the night, but also threw two interceptions.
This was the second-straight year the Custer County Conflict has been held at SWOSU’s campus. Clinton has now won both meetings, defeating WHS 17-14 last year and now 35-14 this season. The Red Tornados improve to 6-2 on the season, and Weatherford falls to 5-3 on the year.
