GOODWELL — The Oklahoma Panhandle State University Rodeo team will be hosting their hometown college rodeo next weekend on Apr. 27-29. You won’t want to miss some of the best action in college rodeo. This is the last stop for the Central Plains Region. Come out to the Henry C. Hitch Pioneer Arena Thursday and Friday night at 7p.m. and Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
With this being the last stop on the tour several Aggies will be battling for their spot to the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) held in Casper, Wyo. With two rodeos left the Panhandle State men have a commanding lead in the men’s team standings and the women’s team is currently in second. The top two men’s and women’s teams will qualify for the CNFR as well as the top three finishers in each individual event.
Senior Randi Buchanan is leading the women’s all-around race as well as sitting second in barrel racing and fourth in the breakaway roping. Junior Melanie Roman is sitting first in the barrel racing. Junior Jake Finlay has a solid lead in the saddle bronc riding while junior Will Martin is winning the bareback riding. Senior Josh Frost is winning the bull riding. In the saddle bronc riding freshman Scott Davis is currently in fifth place. Sophomore Dylan Riggins is sitting fourth in the bareback riding and junior Cody Ballard is sitting fourth in the bull riding. Brothers Ben and Nate Johnsrud are currently sitting third place in the team roping and senior Will Carpenter is sitting fifth in the steer wrestling. Freshman Tanegai Zilverberg is currently sitting fifth place in the breakaway roping.
With two rodeos left the Aggies will continue to battle for their chance to compete at this year’s CNFR. Don’t miss the opportunity to cheer them on in Guymon Apr. 27-29.
Tickets can be purchased at the gate and are $10 per performance or $20 for all the performances. Children 12 and under get in free. There will be a calf scramble and drawings for prizes each performance. We hope to see you there!
