CHICKASHA – The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma women’s basketball team started their season with a 90-80 win in a Friday evening home contest against the University of Saint Mary.
It was USAO’s first true home opener since 2007.
The game went back-and-forth for the first 15 minutes before USAO was able to pull ahead, entering halftime with an 11-point lead, a lead they extended to 18 at one point in the second half.
Ndeye Ngom opened the season with a double-double, collecting a career-high 27 points to go with her 11 rebounds. She shot 50 percent from the field and sank 10 free throws in the game. She also nabbed four steals.
Drover newcomer Mahogany Nelms, a transfer from Western Oklahoma State, had 23 points in the game off 7-for-16 shooting from the field. She had seven rebounds and four assists.
Jordan Williams also scored in the double digits, recording 10 points in the game. Williams joined the Drovers this season from Seminole State.
Jordan Cooper, a sophomore from Lubbock, Texas, helped out in all aspects of the game with nine points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals on Friday night.
For the game, the Drovers shot nearly 47 percent from the field. One of USAO’s keys on Friday was their second-chance points, where they had the 21-13 advantage.
The Drovers next game will be another home contest against Central Baptist College at 6 p.m. Friday. It will be Alumni Day and all USAO, OCLA and OCW alumni are welcome to the game for free.
The next day, the Drovers play in their Homecoming game at 4 p.m. against Friends University.
Friday was “Halloween Haunt” and fans were encouraged to participate in a halftime costume contest.
