Bethany, Okla. – The Southwestern Christian University Eagles defeated the No. 21-ranked Mid-America Christian University Evangels 98-62 in a Sooner Athletic Conference outing tonight (Jan. 26) in Bethany, Okla.
The Eagles got off to a quick start and jumped out to a 10-3 lead, but the Evangels answered early as Robert Romero hit a three and Devonse Reed scored six straight to briefly put MACU up 12-10 at the 13:48 mark.
SCU though seized control at that point, exploding for a 19-1 burst over the next five minutes to take a 16-point lead.
Shawn Scott scored nine and Marvin White put in six points to spark the Eagle run that made it 29-13 with 8:34 left in the opening half.
The Eagles led 46-28 at the break before using another big spurt, this one 13-1 to take a commanding 61-31 lead with 16:30 remaining.
SCU eventually built the lead to a game-high of 39 points at the 6:23 point of the second half.
Olajuwon Garner led the Evangels (13-8, 4-5 SAC) with 11 points and Malcolm Mann had 10 points and five rebounds. Tyler Chaisson also had five rebounds for MACU along with a team-high three assists.
White led four Eagles in double-figures with 32 points and Joshua Simmons scored 18. Scott had 17 points, with Casey Cole adding 15 points. Trevar Mayon led the Eagles (13-8, 5-4 SAC) with a game-high 12 boards.
Having now concluded their four-game road swing, the Evangels will return home to face John Brown University Saturday afternoon (Jan. 28) at 5 pm inside the friendly confines of the Gaulke Activity Center.
