There was no drama entering the final weekend of the regular season as to what teams would be playing in the 2014 Great American Conference women’s basketball postseason.
It was simply a matter of which teams would meet in the first round.
Southwestern had a half game lead on East Central, but had only one game to hold the lead while the Lady Tigers had two. SWOSU won it’s rivalry game at Northwestern. ECU took down rival Southeastern and then pushed Arkansas Tech into fourth place to finish the 2013-2014 season while knotting up a tie with the Lady Dawgs in the No. 2 spot
Owning the tiebreaker, East Central (18-8, 13-7) will be the second seed in the tourney and will face Southern Arkansas (12-14, 8-12) at 2:15 on Friday.
Southwestern (16-10, 13-7) takes on Henderson State (13-13, 8-12) in the game prior to that at noon.
Southeastern lost its final five games and fell to .500 both in overall record and in the GAC. The Savage Storm (13-13, 10-10) are the fifth seed and are matched with the Golden Suns (16-10, 12-8) to play the nightcap on the first day at 8 p.m.
Harding is 27-1, the GAC regular season champs and the No. 3 team in Division II. The Lady Bisons will play Ouachita Baptist (9-17, 7-13) at 5:45.
