GALVA, Ill. — The Aggie Equestrian team capped off a successful season with one rider qualifying for the International Horse Show Association 2018 Western Semi-Finals held March 17-18 at Black Hawk College in Galva, Ill.
Junior Hannah Hammack collected enough points throughout the season to represent OPSU on the national stage at semi-finals. Hammack showed among schools from six zones and twelve different regions ranging from the University of Nebraska, Laramie County Community College to schools from the New England area (Mount Holyoke) to the University of Tennessee, Middle Tennessee State and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. Though she did not progress beyond the preliminary rounds, Hammack showed well with a great ride, motivating her to return to the semis for her senior season.
Head Equestrian Coach Lisa Drumhiller joined Hammack at the event and said she was extremely proud of Hammack’s performance.
“Hannah did a superb job representing Panhandle State at the IHSA National Western Semi-Finals and competing against schools from across the country,” Drumhiller said. “She had the opportunity to ride some outstanding horses, as well as experience the fun and celebrations that go on with such a prestigious event. I and the entire equestrian team are so proud of Hannah’s excellent representation.”
Hammack also offered comments on the experience.
“All of my hard work finally paid off, allowing me the opportunity to compete at semi-finals,” Hammack said. “I had a blast in Galva and, even though I did not make it past the preliminary round, I took away an amazing experience. I want to give a huge ‘Thank you’ to my coach Lisa Drumhiller, my advisor Dr. Sandol Johnson and my family for all of their support and help through this unforgettable journey. I am so excited for next year’s show season and seeing our team’s potential unfold.”
