CLAREMORE – The Rogers State women’s soccer team moved to 4-0 on the season with a 9-0 victory over Randall on Monday night (Sept. 11) in nonconference action at Soldier Field. The Hillcats improved to 4-0 to start a season for the first time since 2010.
The navy and red totaled five goals in the first half and added four more in the final 45 minutes in a one-sided contest. The Cats held a 62-0 advantage in shots in the game.
RSU put in the first two goals in the opening 11 minutes. The two goals were almost identical as Daisy Cardona knocked in crosses from Lexi Ellingsen for both tallies. Cardona tapped in the first goal in the fifth minute on a cross from Ellingsen on the right wing. In the 11th minute, Cardona struck again on another cross into the box from Ellingsen for a 2-0 edge early.
The lead grew to 3-0 in the 24th minute when BreAnn Tolleson scored on a cross from Hannah Mushisky.
The navy and red added two more goals before halftime to gain a 5-0 advantage. Suvannah Melton put the Cats up 4-0 with a strike from the top of the box that went off the left post and in. Marlaina Trahant scored the final goal of the first half on a header on a cross from Madison Murray in the 37th minute.
To start the second half, Trahant struck again with a goal in the 47th minute for a 6-0 score. She cleaned up in front after a shot from Jordan Downing couldn’t be cleared by the Randall goalkeeper.
Murray scored her first goal in the navy and red in the 65th minute to make it 7-0.
Alexis Pryor tallied the final two RSU goals for the 9-0 margin. In the 80th minute, Pryor hit from 18 yards that beat the goalkeeper to the left side of the goal. Two minutes later, Pryor added her second goal as she went right at the goalkeeper and scored in close in the 82nd minute.
RSU held possession for the majority of the game, and the Cats didn’t allow a single shot from Randall all game. The navy and red registered 62 shots and 28 shots on goal in 90 minutes.
The Hillcat defense has posted four shutouts to open the season, totaling 360 minutes. Dating back to last season, RSU hasn’t allowed a goal in 421 minutes.
