ALVA – The Rogers State women’s soccer team ended its three-game road trip with a 1-0 shutout victory at Northwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday at the Alva Rec Complex.
The navy and red went in front, 1-0, in the 28th minute when Marlaina Trahant scored her team-leading third goal of the season and her second game-winning tally.
The one goal was all the Hillcats needed as the RSU defense shutout the Rangers for the 1-0 victory. The shutout is the fourth of the season for the navy and red, their most since the 2012 season when the Hillcats totaled eight.
It was another strong performance from the back line of Korie Martin, Megan Bell, Addy Pritchard, Jasmine Guerra and Lexi Ellingsen. The group held the Rangers to only four shots on goal.
Tayler Stover made four saves in 90 minutes as she got her fourth shutout win of the season. She moved to 5-5-1 on the year.
RSU totaled 10 shots with five shots on target. In the second half, the Hillcats held a slight 5-4 advantage in shots. Paige Pontarolo registered a team-high four shots, and Trahant added three shots, two on goal.
With the win, RSU ends its nonconference schedule with a perfect 4-0 record, the first time the program has gone undefeated in nonconference regular season play since its first season in 2007.
The Hillcats (5-5-1) return home for Heartland Conference play this weekend against Newman on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Soldier Field. Coverage will be available on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
