INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA announced Wednesday the first round of Women’s Basketball Regional Rankings and the reigning regional champion Lady Bulldogs from SWOSU are currently ranked ninth in the Central Region.
Central Missouri is the top team in the region and in position to host the regional with an overall record of 18-4. Minnesota-Duluth is currently in second place, followed by Sioux Falls, Emporia State, Nebraska-Kearney and St. Cloud State. The first Great American Conference team in the rankings is Southeastern Oklahoma State at No. 7, followed by Fort Hays State, SWOSU and Central Oklahoma to round out the Top 10.
Each conference in the region – the GAC, MIAA and Northern Sun – gets one automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament, while the other five spots are given to at-large teams. The Regional Tournament is then hosted by the top-seeded team and takes place the week following conference tournaments.
With four games remaining in the regular season, SWOSU is 17-7 overall and tied for third place in the GAC standings at 12-6. The Lady Bulldogs will play twice on the road this weekend, beginning on Thursday night at Henderson State.
