LANGSTON – The Langston Lions (20-11) are dancing in March once again and begin their journey for a national championship after being selected to the 81st annual NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball National Championship tournament field Wednesday night, March 7. The event takes place at Municipal Auditorium in downtown Kansas City, Mo., March 14-20.
The Lions received an At-Large bid by finishing runner-up in the Red River Athletic Conference tournament and return to the Duer Bracket as an eight-seed; Langston faces one-seed Pikeville (Ky.) on Thursday, March 15 at 2:15 p.m. CST at the Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.
The field is comprised of 14 automatic berths, 17 at-large selections and one host berth. Automatic qualification is given to conference regular-season champions, conference regular-season runner-up, tournament champions or tournament runner-up, depending on the league. At-large teams were determined using the final regular-season Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.
Langston makes its sixth appearance in the national tournament and third-straight under head coach Stan Holt. The Lions hold an all-time record of 2-5 at the national tournament.
