Jarred Merrill is moving from Division II to Division I for the upcoming year.
The former Oklahoma Christian standout, who has spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Southern Nazarene, will be taking an assistant coach position at Mercer University in Macon, Ga.
In 2014-2015, the Crimson Storm finished third in the Great American Conference and finished third in the National Christian College Athletic Association postseason tournament.
Merrill will be working under Bob Hoffman, who has had a storied coaching career including stops at SNU, Oklahoma Baptist and Oklahoma.
Merrill played at OC from 2001-2005 and was the first player in the Sooner Athletic Conference to put up 2,000 points and bring down 1,000 rebounds. He is still the Eagles’ all-time leading scorer with 2,189 points.
He then played professionally abroad as well as in the NBA’s Developmental League and retired in 2011. His first coaching opportunity was an assistant at Bishop McGuiness High School in 2012-2013.
