Union City went into the third place game of the Bulldog Classic on Saturday looking for revenge on Minco from their previous meeting in the regular season. The Tigers did so, beating the Bulldogs, 71-39.
The first quarter was a defensive one while both teams only managed eight points. Landon Le had half of those points in the quarter. The Tigers were pleased with the quarter knowing Minco is a good offensive team.
The second quarter was a different story as Josh Michalicka started to heat up draining three 3-pointers and getting the offense rolling for the boys. Minco was outscored 18-9 making it a 26-17 lead for the Tigers at the break.
The lid came off the basket for good as Michalicka really started to find his shot in the third dropping five threes and extending the Tigers lead. The boys were locking down the Bulldogs letting them only score six points in the third sending the game to the fourth quarter with a 49-23 lead for the Tigers.
The fourth quarter was no different as the Tigers just extended the lead more and more. Kristoph Dries came off the bench and quickly hit a deep three closing out the game.
Senior Josh Michalicka set a career high with 12 three-pointers, scoring 36 points. With a 71-39 rivalry win, the team will be looking to extend their record to 8-3 after a home game against Gracemont on Tuesday.
Tuesday’s game will be the last game before Christmas break.
