Happy Monday! The cold front has arrived and it’s chilly outside.
• Central and Northeastern State both got their first taste of MIAA basketball this week. The Bronchos and Riverhawks had good showings in their first efforts.
Central’s men and women split a pair of road games with the women winning at Pitt State and the men winning at Southwest Baptist.
The Riverhawks opened at home with wins over tough Emporia State teams at Jack Robbins Field House. Both teams were featured on MIAA TV on Saturday. The men won at Lincoln, while the women came up five points short.
It appears the Oklahoma imports are going to make an impact in the new league in their first seasons.
• Southwestern’s women are lighting things up as well. The Bulldogs own a six-game winning streak and are 7-1 overall. SWOSU is one of three teams in the Great American Conference with no league losses (2-0). In fact, Southwestern has won six consecutive regular season conference games dating back to last season.
• Mid-America is one-upping Southwestern with a seven-game winning streak. The Lady Evangels are 9-1, which is the best start for the program since becoming a member of the NAIA. There are two more games for MACU before Christmas break and the conference slate: Haskell Indian Nations (Dec. 14) and East Central (Dec. 17).
• And for a random observation, how about my Seattle Seahawks?! (Yes, I’m a huge Seattle fan.) They beat Arizona yesterday by 58 points. 58 points!! I’m glad I decided to put them in as my defense on my fantasy team. Let me glory in this one just one more time. Seattle 58, Arizona 0.
58 point victory!
