On Saturday afternoon, the Northwestern Rangers and Southern Arkansas Muleriders met for Game Three of the series and the Muleriders came out on top, 4-1.
The Rangers unfortunately experienced some struggle hitting throughout the game. They managed to rack up only four hits the entire contest.
But the Muleriders offensive game started off strong early with a double hit to left field. That was then followed up by a home run that brought the score to 1-0.
The Rangers acquired one of their four hits in the bottom of the first by sophomore Greg Carrington, who was then brought home by a single from senior Arturo Castro. That brought score to an all even at the bottom of the first.
Over the next couple innings the pace of the game definitely slowed down with no runs coming from either team in the second or third inning. That was until the Muleriders hit a three-run homer at the top of the fourth, which brought the score to 4-1.
Unfortunately for the Rangers, they could not manage to score any more runs for the remainder of the contest following that first inning score. Freshman Nick Llorente relieved junior Matthew Bickford, the Rangers’ starter, after the first four innings.
This weekend, Northwestern will host another home conference series against Oklahoma Baptist University. The start time for the first game of the three-game series is Friday at 7 pm.
The Rangers will first be playing a single game against Newman University on Tuesday at 5 pm.
