∗ Four members of the Rogers State baseball team earned accolades this summer as part of the Golden State Baseball Collegiate Baseball League. Ismael Orozco garnered first team GSCBL All-League, Chris Miguel and Jason Marley were named to the second team and Sam Davison landed on the third team.
Orozco, a senior shortstop from San Francisco, Calif., played 51 games for the San Francisco Seagulls. In 174 at bats, Orozco finished with a .339 batting average with 12 doubles, three triples and three home runs. His 38 RBI and 31 walks were team highs. The Seagulls finished with a 31-20 record. In his junior season at RSU, Orozco earned All-Heartland Conference second team honors.
Miguel, a senior third baseman from Daly City, Calif., appeared in 43 games for Top Speed Baseball. For the season, Miguel hit .330 with six home runs and 32 RBI. He added nine doubles and totaled 38 hits in 115 at bats. Top Speed Baseball tallied a 47-4 record, including 15 straight victories to end the season.
Marley, a senior catcher from Half Moon Bay, Calif., played in 29 games for the South Bay Storm. In 90 at bats, Marley totaled 25 hits, three doubles, five home runs and 18 RBI. His batting average finished at .278. The Storm ended the season with a 24-24 record.
Davison, a senior first baseman from Napa, Calif., appeared in 43 games for the California Bees. For the season, Davison registered a .281 batting average with eight doubles, one triple and a team-high five home runs. His 33 RBI and 26 walks were also team highs for the Bees. The Bees ended the season with a 14-30 record.
The four Hillcats are in their second seasons on the Hill after transferring to RSU for their junior seasons. In 2016 the Cats finished with a 28-22 record, their best record since 2013.
∗ Oklahoma Wesleyan women’s basketball head coach Jason Jeschke has announced the hiring of Brenae Williams in an graduate assistant coaching role.
“I am very excited to welcome Brenae to our women’s basketball family. She is very passionate about Christ and about the game of basketball and will be a great fit at OKWU,” Jeschke said.
A native of Orangeburg, South Carolina, Williams graduated from Winthrop University (Rock Hill, SC) with a degree in Exercise Science and a minor in coaching in May 2016. She is currently pursuing a MBA degree at Oklahoma Wesleyan University.
During her time at Winthrop University, Williams served as the student manager for the women’s basketball team (NCAA, Div I). In 2014, she had the chance to work with Winthrop when they won their first ever Big South Conference Championship.
