Oklahoma Baptist junior Taylor Hearn was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the fifth round of the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Hearn, a 6-6 left-handed pitcher from Dallas, Texas, was selected as overall pick number 164. He is the first NAIA player to go in the 2015 draft.
“That’s outstanding. I’m really proud of him and happy for him and his family. I’m excited that he gets the chance to get started on his career. I thought he’d go in the first five rounds and it was getting pretty close,” said Bison head coach Bobby Cox.
In his only season with OBU, Hearn compiled a perfect 9-0 record with an earned run average of 3.50. He struck out 71 batters in 64.1 innings pitched and opponents hit just .191 against him this year.
“I thank God for this opportunity and I think Him for my time at OBU with their great coaching staff and great teammates,” said Hearn.
