OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) announced a new multi-year partnership with Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company (OG&E) supporting Oklahoma athletics and OG&E scholarship opportunities.

Through the partnership, OG&E will support the students, coaches, families, and devoted fans of OSSAA member schools. With a presence at 12 football state championships, 98 boys’ and girls’ basketball tournament games, and all track and field state events, OG&E’s partnership supports more than 200,000 Oklahoma students, coaches and teachers.

“The support of OG&E is impactful and is appreciated,” said David Jackson, executive director of the OSSAA. “The partnership will play a key role in the experiences our students and schools have during our activities.

The OSSAA and OG&E will hit the road together for the Oklahoma Basketball Rivalry Series tour this winter. During the basketball regular season, six-OSSAA member schools will be selected to promote community pride and hometown rivalry traditions throughout the tour. OG&E will also donate $4,500 to the athletic programs, along with prizes and exclusive “The Road To State” t-shirts at each rivalry series game.

The partnership also allows OSSAA and OG&E to educate more students and families about the OG&E Positive Energy Scholarship. The OG&E Positive Energy Scholarship is a four-year, $60,000 scholarship awarded to students with outstanding academic achievements and a commitment to their communities. Since launching the program in 2018, OG&E has awarded 18 scholarships, totaling more than $1 million to high school seniors who commit to attending college in Oklahoma or Arkansas, pursue a STEM-related degree and are OG&E customers.

“By partnering with the OSSAA, we enhance our efforts in promoting our scholarships and supporting education,” said Kelli Hayward Walsh, Manager of Community Outreach and Engagement at OG&E. “We believe that investing in education is investing in the future of our communities. The Positive Energy Scholarship is a testament to our commitment to supporting high school students and helping them achieve their dreams.”

Recipients are often first-generation college students, and the scholarship relieves a significant financial burden for families for whom college might otherwise be unattainable. The OG&E Positive Energy Scholarship applications are open through February 15th, 2025. Visit occf.org/scholarships/apply-now.
