Oklahoma Baptist is completing its final year in the NAIA as a part of its transition to NCAA Division II and it is racking up some attention with the spring sports on the way out.
The Bison baseball team just completed a run to the NAIA World Series. They came up short of the title, going 1-2 in Lewiston, Idaho, but made it to the final level in the athletic department’s final sport to be active in 2014-2015.
Last week the track teams finished near the top of the Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala. The women’s team took second place and the men’s team took fourth.
OBU also brought in national championships in nine events between the two teams.
Men’s and women’s tennis teams also competed in the national tournaments.
OBU has won the last two Learfield Sports Directors’ Cups. The award goes to honor universities on a broad-based level that achieve success in many sports.
The Bison are likely to finish in second place in this year’s standings, behind Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.).
