Oklahoma Christian took both Student-Athlete of the Week awards for basketball this week, as well as both awards for golf.
Katy O’Steen and Will Reinke got the nod again for their play through the NCCAA Central Region tournament last weekend in Bartlesville. Morgan Dockery and Sam Johnston were recognized for what they did on the links.
O’Steen helped her team win the Central Region title with three wins, including a victory in the championship game over archrival Southern Nazarene. She recorded a double-double in that contest with 14 points and 12 boards, as OC won 73-64, claiming its first postseason title in 27 years. For the week, O’Steen averaged 13.3 points and eight rebounds.
Reinke had a great tournament for the Eagles in just two games. He had 17 points and seven rebounds in a win over Central Christian. Then Reinke had 26 points and matched career highs with 17 boards and seven blocks, in an 89-87 loss to Mid-America Christian.
Dockery finished first in the six-team, 38-woman Diffie Ford-Lincoln Invitational in Edmond. It was the first win for Dockery in her college career. Her first round 72 was her best of the year so far. She became only the second player in OC women’s golf history to take medalist honors in an event.
Johnston, a freshman, led OC to a second-place finish at The Contender. He shot a 71 and a 75 on the first day and finished sixth in the 14-team, 75-player event.
